The Second Annual Conference of the Center for Macro Projects and Diplomacy focuses on the potentials available in Re-Connecting Sites, Nations and Cultures following major conflict—through the construction of inter-ethnic environment, of provincial and national identities and infrastructures, continental and intercontinental linkages, and international education and service. Sites of recent or continuing conflict--Bosnia, Afghanistan, Southeast Asia—as well as current conceptions of the establishment / re-establishment of trans cultural linkages including the Silk Road(s) between Europe and Asia--will be explored. Concluding Decision Seminar sessions addresses the balancing of preservation and development, local and international involvement in reconstruction efforts.
The Conference seeks to engender ways in which governments, institutions, organizations and individuals from the fields of diplomacy, architecture and planning, engineering, law, management, and the arts may work together to participate in large scale recovery efforts arising as a result of major conflict. The Conference serves as a forum where selected reconstruction initiatives are considered for further development--both as local efforts, and as elements of global re-organization. It is expected that a follow-up Study Group will be formed from the gathering, to pursue further project development.
